best romance books to read in autumn

Best Autumn Romance Books

It’s finally autumn, and it’s the perfect time to cozy up with a good book. Any book, really. But if you have a particular taste for seasonal romances, this list is for you.

I rounded up my favorite romances that are either set in autumn or give off strong cozy/fall vibes. There’s a lot of sweet, a bit of spicy and a whole lot of swoon in here. Enjoy!

1. You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

You Deserve Each Other is probably my favorite romance book ever. It follows Naomi and Nicholas, who are engaged and were once in love. But it doesn’t seem like it anymore. And with their wedding only a few months away, and neither of them willing to chicken out first (for various reasons), they begin a prank war that may change their lives forever.

This book is fully set in autumn — it begins around Halloween and ends in January so it will serve you well throughout the season. For more info, check out my full review here.

2. You Again by Kate Goldbeck

you again review

You Again is perfect for you if you love New York in autumn. It’s a story about Ari and Josh who keep meeting accidentally over several years and finally become friends one autumn when they’re both broken and depressed. Their friendship builds slowly over time, but it might grow into something more.

This book was inspired by When Harry Met Sally and it encapsulates the perfect New York fall to winter season. There’s rain, there’s fallen leaves — the whole package. Just look at the cover. And if you want my full thoughts on this, check out the review here

3. Funny Feelings by Tarah DeWitt

Funny Feelings follows a comedienne and her manager as they finally come to terms with their feelings for each other. He’s older and has a daughter, she’s young and has a bright career in front of her. And thanks to that budding career, they have to pretend to date.

While this wasn’t my favorite book ever, it’s a well done friends to lovers romance with cozy, autumn vibes. There are real stakes, some lovely found family scenes, and overall good writing.

4. Bride by Ali Hazelwood

If Twilight was your jam when you were younger, you’ll love this one. It’s not technically set in Autumn, and it is a fantasy book, but because there are vampires and werewolves, something about it just works for the season.

Bride follows Misery (yes, that’s her name) as she agrees to marry a werewolf alpha named Lowe in order to help the vampire-werewolf relations. She has her own agenda in this, but there’s also something about Lowe that proves irresistible.

This one is funny and fun, very self-aware of its own silliness so I feel like it works better than most Ali Hazelwood books. For more info, check out my full review here

5. Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonham Young

Out on a Limb is a romance book about Win and Bo who have a one night stand that ends in pregnancy. While Bo is excited, Win is very independent and unsure if she wants the help. So they decide to be just friends, but of course, it turns into more.

Just like You Deserve Each Other, this book too starts in Autumn, and it’s soft, cozy and perfect to sink into when you need a sweet read.
