I adore werewolf romance books! It’s one of my favorite subgenres, and I absolutely think there’s not enough of them. Or at least not enough of them that aren’t icky, full of dubcon and horrible men, and named something like “abandoned by my alpha”. Don’t get me wrong, those books are fine sometimes, but they use werewolves in ways that don’t always agree with me.
Because of that, I’m always on the lookout for wolfy books that take these lovely creatures (who are loyal, all about protecting their family, and could be funny and goofy), and give them the storylines that they deserve. So, if you too love werewolves but want more from their stories, here are some of my favorite werewolf books right now.

Bride by Ali Hazelwood
This is a paranormal romance that follows Misery Lark, the estranged daughter of a powerful vampire councilman, who enters an arranged marriage with Lowe Moreland, the alpha of a werewolf pack, to maintain peace between their species. But she doesn’t do it entirely because she’s forced to: she actually wants to find her best friend who may be stuck in werewolf realm. Unexpectedly, her new husband (who she thought would be awful and violent) wants to help, and so do his packmates. This book turned me into an Ali Hazelwood fan, and I absolutely love it (I have a physical and e-copy of it too), and you can find my full review here!
A Werewolf’s Guide to Seducing a Vampire by Sarah Hawley
In this one, an anxiety-ridden werewolf receives a necklace from an anonymous sender via mail and accidentally summons a vampire succubus from it. The vampire in question is centuries old and hasn’t been released in quite a while. Plus, she’s only ever been used to wreak vengeance on her enemies. But now she’s landed in this soft werewolf’s house and he wants to do his best to show her how life could be. Watch them fall in love while they try to free her and see my full review here!
Mate by Ali Hazelwood
In this companion novel to Bride, Serena Paris, a fiercely independent werewolf/human hybrid, knows that Koen Alexander, a powerful alpha is her mate. But she doesn’t want to be forced into a relationship by biology, not to mention she believes she is suffering from a deadly illness and could soon be dead. And Koen has his own reasons for not pursuing the relationship — namely that this is forbidden by his pack’s law. So the two of them avoid each other until people start threatening Serena’s life, and he must protect her. I loved Mate so much and I hope that Ali will continue to write more books in this series because they’re seriously amazing. You can find my full review here, and I hope you enjoy this book too!
Wolfsong (Green Creek Series) by TJ Klune
Wolfsong is a cozy, emotional paranormal romance that follows Ox Matheson, whose quiet life changes forever when he meets the mysterious Bennett family. As he grows up alongside Joe Bennett, a young werewolf destined for greatness, their bond deepens into something Ox is yet to understand. But when disaster strikes, Joe leaves, and comes back three years later a changed man, determined to charm Ox. I did enjoy this somewhat, but the prose really bogged this book down. Still, there’s a full series with romances for all brothers, so if you want a nice world to sink into, this is a good option. I have a full review of Wolfsong here, if you’re curious to know more.
The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson
The Fake Mate is a steamy paranormal romantic comedy that follows Mackenzie Carter, a human doctor, and Noah Taylor, a wolf shifter, who agree to fake a mating bond for their own personal reasons. What begins as a convenient arrangement soon turns into genuine attraction as the two discover they may be perfect mates after all.
I’ll be honest, this is not my favorite book, but it scratches the itch if you liked Bride and it’s just silly and goofy enough that you can enjoy it and relax with it. I have a full review here, if you care for more of my thoughts.
Moon Called Series by Patricia Briggs
The first book in the Mercy Thompson series follows mechanic and shapeshifter Mercy Thompson as she becomes caught between werewolves, vampires, and dangerous magical forces. When a young werewolf seeks her help, Mercy uncovers a deadly conspiracy that threatens everyone she cares about. So, she reaches out to the world she left behind in the form of werewolf alpha Adam. This is an excellent book to read if you’re looking for a series to sink into, and especially if you’re looking for something romantic with older characters.
Cold Hearted by Heather Guerre
After escaping an abusive relationship, Grace moves to a remote Alaskan town hoping for a fresh start. There she meets Caleb Kinoyit, a brooding local bush pilot who is as grumpy as he is handsome. But as Grace starts warming on both her new home and Caleb, the town is clearly keeping secrets from her that all have to come to light sooner of later.
Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross
Mateo Cruz, a cursed werewolf whose wolf refuses to shift, seeks help from Evie Savoie, a powerful witch from New Orleans. But Evie is not allowed to work with werewolves. As the two spend more time together trying to break the curse, their playful chemistry turns into irresistible romance. I found this book so funny and enjoyable. It’s a lighthearted, more fun take on werewolves, and Mateo is especially great!
The Last Wolf by Maria Vale
Silver is a wolf unlike the rest of her isolated pack, longing for a life beyond the strict traditions she’s always known. When she encounters a human man who challenges everything she believes, Silver must choose between loyalty to her pack and forging her own destiny. This is an atmospheric, nature-inspired fantasy romance and I found it soothing and relaxing to read.
A Wolf in Duke’s Clothing by Susanna Allen
This is a paranormal historical romance that follows Alfred Blakemore, the Duke of Lowell, who needs a wife to save his pack, and Felicity, a lady who will inherit a fortune if she remains unmarried until she turns 25. But the Duke wants her and she finds it’s not so easy to resist him either. A Wolf in Duke’s Clothing blends regency society with hidden wolf shifters, which worked out perfectly with my new historical romance obsession, and the romance itself is witty, there’s family intrigue, and supernatural secrets.
Big Bad Wolf series by Charlie Adhara
Big Bad Wolf is a paranormal romance series that follows human FBI agent Cooper Dayton and werewolf agent Oliver Park as they investigate supernatural crimes together. The Wolf At The Door is the first book in the series. In many ways, this is similar to Moon Called since it’s a longer paranormal series and there are crimes, so if you liked that, you’ll enjoy this. As dangerous cases bring them closer, the slow-burn relationship develops into a heartfelt romance filled with mystery, humor, and emotional depth.
Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh
Memory has psychic power which have always made her the hunted, and she was kidnapped as a child. When Alexei, a growly wolf determined not to love finds her and saves her, all Memory wants to do is live. Together they face danger and political unrest, but their growing connection proves just as powerful as the forces threatening their world. I would also recommend Nalini Singh’s entire psy-changeling series in general because it has a bunch of shifters (around 40 books) and even though not all of them are wolf shifters, they have similar tropes and vibes.
Shiver by Maggie Stiefwater
Shiver is a young adult paranormal romance about Grace Brisbane, who has spent years watching the wolves behind her house, especially one with striking yellow eyes. That wolf is Sam, a teenage werewolf who shifts into human form during the warmer months but risks remaining a wolf forever as winter approaches. As Grace and Sam fall in love, they race against time to find a way to stop his transformation before they’re separated for good. I read this one as a teen and recently tried it again, and it still holds up (much better than Twilight, for example), so if you’re looking for something softer and kind of nostalgic, enjoy this one!
The Wolf King by Lauren Palphreyman
The Wolf King is a romantasy that follows Princess Aurora, who is trapped in an arranged marriage and a kingdom at war with the werewolves beyond its borders. On the eve of her wedding, she secretly spares the life of a captured young wolf, drawing the attention of Callum, a powerful alpha leading the fractured wolf clans. When Callum kidnaps Aurora and takes her north, believing she could help end the war, she discovers that everything she’s been taught about the wolves may be a lie.
Mating the Huntress by Talia Hibbert
Mating the Huntress is a spicy paranormal romance novella that follows Chastity Adofo, a monster hunter raised to kill werewolves on sight. When she meets Luke Anthony, a charming werewolf who instantly recognizes her as his fated mate, their first date quickly turns into a battle of wills because Chastity is determined to kill him before he can claim her. As Luke tries to convince her that not all werewolves are monsters, their hilarious enemies-to-lovers dynamic gives way to undeniable chemistry. I adore Talia Hibbert’s writing, and werewolves (as mentioned), so this felt like a perfect blend to me (although I could do with less spice).
Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause
This is a young adult paranormal romance that follows Vivian Gandillon, a teenage werewolf struggling to balance her human life with the expectations of her pack after her father days and her pack is left in disarray. When she falls for a human boy named Aiden, Vivian must decide whether to reveal her true nature or continue hiding who she is. This is somewhat of a classic of the genre, so give it a go if you haven’t read it yet.
A Warriors Fate by Melissa Kieran
A Warrior’s Fate is a romantasy that follows Isla, a fierce wolf shifter determined to earn her place as a warrior by surviving the Hunt, a dangerous trial that will define her future. On the very night she’s set to achieve her lifelong dream, she unexpectedly meets Kai, the enigmatic Alpha King of the rival kingdom of Deimos and discovers they’re fated mates. Refusing to let destiny dictate their lives, the two agree to ignore their bond, but fate has other plans when Isla is sent to Kai’s kingdom on her first mission. I wanted to love this book more than I actually did, but I’m sure it’ll be an enjoyable read for you.
Moon Touched by Elizabeth Briggs
Moon Touched is the first book in the Zodiac Wolves series, following Ayla, a half-human outcast in the Cancer wolf pack who has endured a lifetime of abuse and rejection. Her only hope for a better future is finding her fated mate, until he’s revealed to be the heir to the rival Leo pack, who publicly rejects her moments before his pack massacres her family. Fleeing for her life, Ayla is captured by Kaden, the enigmatic alpha of the long-banished Thirteenth Zodiac pack. Instead of killing her, he offers her something she’s desperate for: revenge. This one is a bit more like those books I talked about in the intro (so fair warning) and I’m not a fan of first person POV, but it’s very popular and you might enjoy it!
Written in Red (The Others series) by Anne Bishop
Written in Red is the first book in The Others series, an urban fantasy set in a world where shapeshifters, vampires, and other supernatural beings rule much of the land. The story follows Meg Corbyn, a young woman with the rare ability to see the future when her skin is cut, who escapes captivity and takes refuge as a Human Liaison in a community governed by the enigmatic wolf shifter Simon Wolfgard. He knows she’s keeping secrets but he’s compelled to help her, and when he finally finds out what she is, he must decide if she’s worth the war between humans and others.
Moonglow by Kristen Callihan
Moonglow is a Victorian paranormal romance that follows Daisy Ellis Craigmore, a newly widowed woman finally free to live life on her own terms. But when a series of brutal murders terrorizes London, she finds herself under the protection of Ian Ranulf, a reclusive marquis hiding a dangerous secret: he’s a Lycan. As they hunt a rogue werewolf responsible for the attacks, Daisy uncovers mysterious powers of her own, and their growing attraction forces them both to confront the pasts they’ve tried to leave behind.
A Little Too Familiar by Lish McBride
I love this book because in it, being an alpha means taking care of your pack by making lunches, cleaning the house and just overall protecting everyone. Which is what Declan does. But then his sister is dating his ex and he has to get away and ends up rooming with a housefull of witches. He’s immediately charmed by one of them, Lou, but she practices the kind of magic he’s sworn to avoid due to past heartbreak, and so he does his best to avoid her even if that seems impossible. And then his evil parents bust out of prison and want to wage revenge on him, so he has to work together with Lou to prevent any harm on him and his pack.
